Another hideaway of beauty hidden in Porto. Located on Avenida 25 de Abril, in the parish of Bonfim, Praça das Flores (Flowers’ Square) is a point of charm and rest for visitors and residents who pass through. Between the subway stops Estádio do Dragão and Campanhã, and with several bus stops around it, it is an easily accessible place for nature lovers.
In times of French invasions, Praça das Flores was called Campos de Godim. In 1891, Largo do Forjô, 1903, Praça das Flores, but the name has not remained since that time. It became Square of Doctor Pedro Teotónio Pereira in November of 1945, but returned to our beloved Praça das Flores on January 1, 1980 that has remained until the present day.
The square has a beautiful fountain, preserved relics and more than eight species of flowers, including the most striking and showy: the beautiful German Iris. It is a point in Porto where nature is observed and used in every corner. Nature is the phenomenon in which the most diverse types of living beings, including plants and animals, in which the changes are spontaneous. It is the course of a natural growth of the universe itself.
"I am very much tied to Japanese culture, and in it, nature is extremely prominent and valued. I believe it is a form of rebalancing, a form of reconnection with the earth. When you are near a tree or lying on the grass, you can feel everything around you. Nature disconnects us from all the electronic devices that move the insane routine of everyday life, "says Rafaela Hattnher, 26, a student of Architecture in Brazil, who is holding a period of mobility in Art History, at the University of Porto. There is no way to see the birth of a living being and not to be moved. The worshipers of this wonder must discover this small home of pure air. Visitors or locals, do not miss the indescribable Praça das Flores.
