On the first and the third Saturday of each month, the Environmental Education Center opens its doors, with family-directed activities. On those Saturday mornings, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., everyone can try experimental activities, such as plastic expression, field trips and observations of fauna and flora. Visitors will also have the opportunity to listen to several experts from different environmentally related areas.

For this Saturday’s session, on April 14th, the proposal of this program is to discover the insects that populate the Eastern Park in Oporto. Located in the parish of Campanhã, this park develops along the banks of river Tinto, being the pine-brave (pinus pinaster) and the cork tree (quercus suber) two of its most common flora species.
Even though we are not aware of their presence, insects are living beings that are everywhere and play very important roles in the sustainability of ecosystems. So, the question that is the basis of this session that allows you to know more about the small inhabitants of Parque Oriental will be "What are these animals?".
This session will be guided by José Grosso-Silva, researcher at the Museum of Natural History and Science at the University of Porto and the Center for Research on Biodiversity and Genetic Resources.
The group of participants must meet at the entrance of the park by Francisco Xavier Esteves Avenue, next to the Lagarteiro Municipal Pavilion. Participation is free, but susceptible to pre-registration (via e-mail: dm.gestaoambiental@cm-porto.pt). It is open to families and general population, but children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session.
