He loves me… he loves me not

If there is a flower which characterizes Spring, no doubt that it is the daisy. This flower, known by kids and adults, leaves every lawn in Porto with what it seems to be white and yellow polka dots.

Daisy is the name given to many species that belong to the Asteraceae family. Some of the flowers which belong to this family are also called common daisy, lawn daisy or English daisy.

Also known as bruisewort or woundwort, daisies are the leading figure  on the famous French game “he loves me… he loves me not”. The game consists of removing a petal from the flower for each expression (he loves me - a petal; he loves me not - another petal...) the last petal says if the person we think of likes or dislikes us. This game filled the childhood of many with funny moments.

Not even to the great Amália Rodrigues, Portuguese fadista, this little flower went by unnoticed! You can listen to his music here.

For the weather has not been the most favorable one in the last few days, you may not be able to see them because they become almost invisible when closed and camouflaged in the middle of the lawn. However, it only takes a little sunshine for them to re-open and make our lives more colorful!

Do not forget to share your findings with us! We want to know how many different daisys you can find!
