“Once upon a time there was a flower incable unable to fix its roots anywhere. From mountains to Kazakhstan, the flower’s bulb roamed from Persia to China and arriving to Turkey. Till one Dutch scientist took the bulb with him to a small country in Europe. There the flower enjoyed the climate and the soil. The population fell in love immediately, and made it a national symbol.”
And it was thus, like a fairy tale, that the tulips won admirers from Netherlands to Portugal and this is the novelty of the moment for the inhabitants of the charming and irreverent Porto City.
With the Spring’s arrival they spread to every flowerbed on the city with most variety colors. They make some streets colorful than others, they are yellow, red even purple making the choice of the most beautiful even harder.
One curiosity about tulips is the fact that they are ornamental flowers, like lily flowers, and they are made of only one flower per stem, with long leafs or more folded ones. With six petals each tulips can go from 30cm to 60cm of height.
Tulips name is original from Turkey because their petals’ appearance look like the way men fold their tullbends.
It is the most audacious sister of roses; tulips are one of the most beautiful flowers of the season and are coveted not only for admirers of the flower in Porto but also for gardening magazines and industries like the fashion industry where they use them in many different and interesting ways, because of their audacious touch that shows singularity.
Among tulip’s meanings it is important to highlight that every single one has a colour that represents different concepts.
Black tulips mean elegance and sophistication; orange ones represent life and force; white tulips mean forgiveness; yellow the sunlight and prosperity; purple can go from lux to peace and the last but not the least the red tulips represent true and eternal love.
