The city of Porto has in its vast fauna a species that is well known by all of us, the Mallard ducks.
The Mallard ducks are a species in which it is easy to distinguish a male from a female only by the coloration of their plumages. In the case of males with a green head, a white ring, a grayish back and belly, and a dark chest. In the case of females the plumage is in shades of brown in its entirety.
This species can grow up to 65 cm in length and can weigh up to 1.4kg. They are sociable birds, and can be found in urban centers such as the city of Porto. It is easy to see animals in their quest for food or just a short walk through a park in the city.
In Portugal, the Mallard ducks typically nest in the months of March to July, and can live in any type of aquatic habitat such as coastal lagoons, dams, streams or even irrigation ditches, preferring shallow places. They usually do not like to dive, preferring to stay on the surface in search for food.
In Invicta it is possible to find this species in places such as the City Park, the Crystal Palace, and others.
